A Tiny Update!
Tuesday August 8, 2017 (Canada)
Oh sure, I promised daily updates. But that doesn't mean they come each day. It means when they do come, there will be one entry for each day. The old bait and switch, baby! Man… what a cop out, huh? Turns out there are two issues with the frequent update plan I had envisioned.
- We have had no solid blocks of downtime since starting out on the trip on the 5th.
- The Internet along the north shore of Lake Superior is patchier than predicted.
Does that count as a reasonable excuse? I sure hope so. Last night we were in Neys Provincial Park. We spent the night in a tent. It's a former prisoner of war camp that was chosen for its seclusion. Perhaps I was the only one that was surprised to discover that there was exactly zero cell signal. We're not talking "one bar if I move over here" type reception. We're talking No Service reception. Needless to say, I didn't manage to get much done in a tent with no power in a rainstorm. Oops.
We arrived in Thunder Bay this evening, and we have a lot to talk about. But first I need to get the photos all ready. And then I need to type out what the heck is going on in the photos. And that all takes time. But we've got Internet now, and tomorrow I'm going to try to set aside some time to get a real update on here.
Rest assured we're safe, having a wonderful time, and making concrete progress westward!
